Here is some of our favorites from 2009.
What is your favorite photo from Barber Photography this year?
On Saturday, we spent Christmas in Omaha. Chris and Christy, my brother and sister-in-law, had been snowed in during Christmas at Sioux City so it wasn’t until this time that we all got a chance to get together. Christmas with Kevin’s family is always fun and relaxing.
Chris and Christy had just bought a Wii and brought it along. In this photo, Mike and Chris are having a boxing match.
This is Kevin’s parents, Mike and Jackie. They have one of the strongest marriages I know and I think they really showed their sons a strong example of how to be a great spouse and just how great marriage can be. I know Christy and I both feel blessed to have such great husbands as a result of having such great parents as role models to Chris and Kevin.
We loved this one of Drew.
Mike and Jackie had taken down their Christmas decorations since it was so far after Christmas but they decided to decorate their plant and put the presents under that.
Here Drew is listening to the Christmas story.
A rare thing. Kevin and I actually getting a photo together. Since we’re photographers we usually only get a couple of photos taken together each year. We were glad that Chris took this of us and he really did a nice job with the composing it.
This was one of my favorite that I photographed that day. Just love that Kati was in this shirt that day.
As I’m sure happened with many others’, our Christmas plans were delayed due to the massive amounts of snow we’ve gotten in Iowa. So the other day we went to Omaha for the Barber family Christmas. We were fortunate to be able to get some great photos of our new niece.
Kindra also wanted to contribute to “Photo a Day” today and since I had forgotten that Kindra took this photo, I think it is welcomed.
Kevin and I have decided that something new we will blog about is showing how our client’s portraits look on their walls. Wall portraits really personalize your home and can enhance your decor. We have started offering Wild Sorbet Frames this Fall and our clients love them. They are hand crafted and hand painted and come in over 100 colors.
Earlier this week, we went to Zack and Mandy’s house to hang their wall portraits in their hallway. They had chosen the Triplett frames, which come in a set of 3, and chose 1 photo of each of their kids and one family photo. They chose to have them hung in their hallway where their loved ones can see them as they enter their home or when they go up to the second floor.

We love the colors that Zack and Mandy chose! Don’t they look great?
In October, we photographed this family’s photos in their home. Vincent and Lila are in our kids club, the Grins and Giggles Club so we’ll have fun watching them grow over the next 2 years. Vincent is one of the most photogenic children we’ve ever seen and Lila is so adorable. We photographed the children playing in their backyard.
Zack was throwing a football to Vincent.
Kevin and I love this photo. We think it looks like a children’s clothing ad. Did I mention how cute Vincent is?
Lila made such cute expressions for us. I love how with babies they change so quickly so something they may do something new for a couple of weeks and then they move onto to some other new discovery. For this session, Lila’s cute new trick was sticking out her tongue. Can’t wait to see what new thing she’s doing for the next session.
This was my favorite photo I took at their session. The Bunkers ordered a wall portrait set of 3 photos in fun colorful frames with this photo included. Can’t wait to hang it on their wall for them in a couple of weeks.
Such a sweet moment.
This was ours and Zack and Mandy’s favorite family photo. I love how Lila is looking up to her big brother. Also want to give props to their dog, Deacon. He posed for us wherever we laid him. He is a very sweet, easy going dog. He’s been one of our favorite dogs to photograph. This photo is another one that is going to be in their wall portrait set.
I love this little shy look. Zack and Mandy, we laughed so much during your session and just fell in love with your kids. We’re looking forward to another session with them in a couple of months. What is everyone’s favorite photo from this session?
A couple of months ago we met this family out at Greenwood Park for their session. The kids made us laugh so much throughout the day. They are definitely a family of comedians.
This was Kevin’s favorite that he took from their session. I love how Ellie looks like an angel. So sweet.
They brought their dog, Toby, along for the session. This was such a cute moment.
I love Ellen’s smile when she laughs. Her whole face lights up.
I had a very hard time choosing photos for this post because we had so many good ones from this session. Charlotte is at such a fun age right now and we enjoyed photographing her doing some of her favorite things.
I love this family photo. The expressions are great and I love the color of the sky.
We went down by the downtown library so Charlotte could play in the water play area. She had never been there before and had so much fun splashing. I love the look of pure glee in this photo.
The whole time she was in the water, she had this big smile on her face. She loved discovering all the things she could do with the water.
Next we went to Snookies for some ice cream. This is one of the family’s favorite places to go.
Every time we photograph Charlotte she’s doing something new. Waving is one of her new favorite things. Can’t wait to see what she’ll be doing for her next session!
We photographed Art and Renae about a month ago. They go to our church and so we knew them a little before the session but enjoyed getting to know them even more while photographing them. We thought it would be fun to capture them doing things they love to do together like talking together on their porch swing and biking. It was like they were on a date and we were there to document it. We had a lot of fun.
Art wanted us to photograph some professional headshots of him for his blog. We also had to throw some fun ones in there for good measure.
Art is in Kevin’s Facebook Mafia, so we came up with this idea for his profile photo. The background was actually a gray photographic background that I replaced with this nice brick texture (formerly Art and Renae’s fireplace).
Art and Renae love spending time outdoors, so we created this photo with their bikes as the sun was setting, making beautiful colors in the sky.

Renae and Art, you’ve been a joy to work with. Thanks for asking us to photograph your family photos!
A month or so ago we got together for lunch with Kevin, a pastor at our church, and Clint the graphic designer for the church. They were talking about how our church was going to be starting a new series called Love U Des Moines in September and they asked us to create the images for the project. They wanted photos of Valley Church people wearing Love U Des Moines shirts in front of Des Moines landmarks. This was for a message series that they started on Sunday and will be a theme for the church for about a year. We had so much fun meeting more people at Valley Church. Our church loves for our city and this is centered around showing Christ to Des Moines through our relationships with those around us.
The Fair was one of the funnest locations we went to. We were there before 8 am so no one was at the Midway so we got lots of good photos before the crowds showed up.
Love the lens flare Kevin got in this one.

I’ve lived in Des Moines all my life and so sometimes I forget just how beautiful this city is and how great the people are that live here. It was fun to go back to some spots that held special memories from my childhood. Thanks to Kevin, Clint, Kelly, and Tim for all your hard work on the project.
