Amazing Light Paintings

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009

I have played with “painting with light” in the past, but this really takes it to a new level – I saw these images posted on a blog the other day and thought I would share. See the original post here.

Light paintings, also known as light drawing or light graffiti, is a photography technique in which exposures are usually made at night or in a darkened room. The images we are featuring here are from Jan Wöllert and Jörg Miedza, the guys behind LAPP-PRO. The light art performance photography (briefly LAPP) is a one-shot, long time bulb exposure photography, performed additionally with movement of light. LAPP originates on a real-time basis directly in front of the camera, created between opening and closing the shutter.

The Tournament Club of Iowa

Sunday, July 26th, 2009

Jessie and Scott had their wedding reception at the Tournament Club of Iowa in Polk City.  We were very impressed with the staff there.  Barb, the events coordinator, took good care of us throughout our time there.  She was organized and friendly.  She brought some golf carts around so we could take some photos of Jessie and Scott near Hole 1.  The rest of the staff was also very helpful and conscientious.  The food was incredible.   Kevin and I have been recommending the Tournament Club to any golfers we know for its picturesque landscape.

We took this photo in the proshop.  Jessi and Scott are Hawkeye fans so we liked that we could incorporate that into a photo of their rings.

Outside the back doors, Jessie and Scott told us of this location that was great for big group photos.  It was raining on and off all day but this whole group was under the shelter of an awning.

We highly recommend the Tournament Club for anyone looking for a reception site for their wedding or for a corporate party.  It has become our favorite new venue for weddings.  Thanks again Barb for all your hard work.

Jessie and Scott’s Wedding Post 4

Friday, July 24th, 2009

The last blog posting from Jessie and Scott’s Wedding.

One of my favorite parts of the day was hearing the toasts.  Jessie and Scott had dated since high school so it was really cool to hear the meaningful and funny stories from their family and friends.

I love this one of Jessie dancing with her parents.

Congratulations Jessie and Scott.  You are an amazing couple and have been a joy to work with.  Thanks for asking us to be a part of your special day.  I’m sure you’ll have many more adventures in your life ahead.

Jessie and Scott’s Wedding Post 3

The adorable ring bearer.

Jessie and Scott had their reception at the Tournament Club of Iowa.  The course had these beautiful steps cut into the grass by one of the holes.

This boy sat up at the bar for quite a while.  We imagined that he was drowning his sorrows in root beer.

More photos from Jessie and Scott’s wedding.

I love Jessie’s Dad’s reaction as he watched Jessie and Scott go down the aisle.

Jessie’s Mom and Dad congratulating Jessie after the wedding.

There was this beautiful arch and garden area outside the church.  More portraits tomorrow!

Jessie and Scott’s Wedding Post 1

Tuesday, July 21st, 2009

We had fun photographing Jessie and Scott’s wedding.  The weather that day was on our side.  We photographed all the formal portraits outside before the wedding but it rained hard during the wedding and then the rain broke as everyone left the church and we were able to get a few portraits at the golf course before the rain started again.

This was one of my favorite photos I took that day.

Kevin took this one right before Jessie and Scott saw each other for the first time.

Sarah captured this fun moment of the bridesmaids watching Jessie and Scott’s first meeting.

I love this photo of Jessie.  She was such a relaxed bride.  She looks radiant.  Keep checking back this week for more from their wedding!

Clint, Joni, Jacob, Rachel and Rebekah

Monday, July 20th, 2009

About a month ago, we photographed this family session.  The family was wanting their portraits captured on the grounds of Des Moines Christian School since all 3 children attend there.  We loved the variety of backgrounds this location provided.  Great idea, Clint and Joni!

We all loved this tree we found behind the school.  The family ended up ordering a wall portrait of this one and we’re excited to see it when it comes in soon.

This is one of Kevin and mine’s favorite photos from the session.  The sky and lighting are so beautiful in it.

Isn’t it hard to believe all these photos were taken in the same location?  We’ll definitely have to go back to DMC for some more sessions.  Thanks Clint, Joni, Jacob, Rachel and Rebekah for being so great to work with.
